Social networks have gone viral. Business, friends and extended networks have become quickly and easily accessible. Spreading the word about an issue of interest literally takes just a few clicks of your mouse. For businesses, social networks have also become an important tool. They serve as a low cost and often free way in which business can promote their ideas and products to the broadest audience possible. Businesses can reach customers, collaborators, support networks and potential investors. If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to get started!
Your next question might be where to start. Currently, the most popular social networks include Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and Linkedin. You may already have a personal account on one of these networks, and you may want to leverage the personal network you’ve built through your profile to promote your business. It’s important to remember however that the brand and the image you create for your business are very important. If you wouldn’t want your mother to see it, you probably don’t want potential clients, investors or business partners to either.
Blogs and websites are also important tools in promoting your business. Before you start, it’s important to identify which information is relevant and what the purpose of the blog/website? Are your blog and/or website meant to be interactive? Are they places to showcase your work? Are there ways for people to contact you? How will you track activity? And last but not least are they user friendly and are you reaching your target audience?
